JJ Redick is set to make his debut as head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers this season, but he won’t be navigating the new role alone.
The Lakers have enlisted two former head coaches to serve as top assistants on Redick’s coaching staff, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski: Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks.
McMillan, aged 59, most recently coached the Atlanta Hawks and boasts a lengthy career in the NBA. He entered the league in 1986 as a second-round pick for the Seattle SuperSonics. Following his playing career, he transitioned to coaching, starting as an assistant with the SuperSonics and eventually becoming a head coach for various teams, including the Portland Trail Blazers and the Indiana Pacers.
Brooks also brings a wealth of experience to the Lakers’ coaching staff, having served as head coach for teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Washington Wizards. His coaching journey began in 2008 as an interim head coach for the Thunder, where he eventually led the team for seven seasons.
With such extensive coaching backgrounds, Redick’s staff is filled with seasoned professionals. It will be interesting to see how the Lakers continue to shape their coaching team and support Redick in his new role.
