LeBron James continues to defy expectations at the age of 39, achieving feats he has never accomplished before.
In a recent game against the San Antonio Spurs, the Los Angeles Lakers star notched his fourth consecutive triple-double for the first time in his illustrious career. He contributed 15 points, 16 rebounds, and 12 assists in the Lakers’ 120-115 victory, marking a strong start to their NBA Cup defense.
James sealed the win with crucial plays, including scoring four points in the final moments to secure a three-point lead and sinking two free throws under pressure.
While James made headlines with his performance, Anthony Davis shone brightly as well, scoring 40 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in a standout matchup against Victor Wembanyama. Davis showcased his scoring prowess, shooting efficiently from the field and the free-throw line. Wembanyama, a rising star, also put up an impressive performance with 28 points and 14 rebounds.
James’ recent string of triple-doubles has propelled him to 116 triple-doubles in his career, ranking him fifth on the NBA’s all-time list. Despite his remarkable achievements, James acknowledges that his playing days are numbered as he approaches 40.
His next milestone is to surpass Nikola Jokic’s 136 triple-doubles, with Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson, and Russell Westbrook leading the all-time list. James’ highest single-season total of triple-doubles is 18, achieved during the 2017-18 campaign. Surprisingly, he did not record any triple-doubles in his rookie season but has steadily increased his tally over the years.
