Veteran shortstop Brandon Crawford revealed his retirement from Major League Baseball on Wednesday after a career that spanned across parts of 14 seasons.
Crawford, 37, leaves the game with a .249/.318/.395 slash line (96 OPS+) in over 6,000 plate appearances. He hit 147 home runs and stole 47 bases. Known for his defensive prowess, Crawford earned four Gold Glove Awards, with the most recent one in 2021. His overall impact on the game amounted to an estimated 29.3 Wins Above Replacement, according to Baseball Reference.
Crawford was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2008 and made his MLB debut in 2011. He spent almost his entire career with the Giants, except for his final season when he played for the St. Louis Cardinals.
In addition to his Gold Glove Awards, Crawford was a three-time All-Star and won a Silver Slugger Award. He also has two World Series rings from the Giants’ championship victories in 2012 and 2014.
While Crawford’s playing days are over, he will forever be remembered as the brother-in-law of New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole.
