Lucas Martins, a UFC veteran, has recently signed with Global Fight League for their upcoming season in 2025. However, he confesses that the pressure of leading the new generation at Team Lucas Mineiro is more intense than stepping into the cage to fight.
During his time in the UFC from 2013 to 2016, Martins, also known as “Mineiro,” had a record of 4-3 and achieved three consecutive stoppage victories in different weight classes, earning two bonuses along the way. Since departing from the UFC, the 36-year-old has claimed the Brave CF belt and has won seven out of 11 MMA matches.
While awaiting his promotional debut with GFL, Martins will be coaching Andre Lima and Kevin Vallejos at UFC Vegas 104 this Saturday. They will be facing Daniel Barez and Seung Woo Choi, respectively.
Martins shared, “I feel a huge responsibility when I’m fighting, but it’s even greater when I’m coaching. Andre has a wealth of experience in kickboxing and boxing, and he’s a jiu-jitsu black belt. Kevin is also very talented, and I believe they will both secure victories this weekend.”
Recently, Tallison Teixeira, a member of Martins’ team, made an impact in his UFC debut with a quick win over Justin Tafa at UFC 312. Martins sees championship potential in Teixeira but emphasizes the importance of taking things step by step.
Regarding another promising athlete, Lany Silva, Martins anticipates her entry into the UFC after a remarkable head-kick KO earlier this year. Silva, with a record of 7-1, is aiming to showcase her skills on Dana White’s Contender Series to secure a contract with the UFC.
