Luka Doncic’s preseason preparation hit a snag as he sustained a left calf contusion during workouts, causing him to miss the Dallas Mavericks’ preseason opener against the Memphis Grizzlies. Coach Jason Kidd revealed that Doncic reported tightness in his calf, leading to an MRI and a diagnosis of a calf strain.
Despite the setback, Doncic expressed readiness to start the season after a productive summer that included leading the Mavericks to the NBA Finals and representing Slovenia in the Olympic qualifying tournament. He will now focus on recovering to ensure a strong start to his seventh season.
If cleared to play, Doncic may have the opportunity to share the court with new teammate Klay Thompson in the upcoming games against the Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Clippers, and Milwaukee Bucks in the preseason. The Mavericks’ regular season opener against the San Antonio Spurs is scheduled for October 24.
