Martin Truex Jr. secured the pole position at Dover after his victory at Darlington.
Truex’s triumph at Darlington marked his third win of the season, earning him the top starting spot for Sunday’s race at Dover (2 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1). As the only driver with multiple victories in the 2021 Cup Series, Truex is considered the favorite with betting odds of +350 for the upcoming race.
Without practice or qualifying sessions prior to the race, Truex claimed the pole through NASCAR’s qualifying formula. This formula takes into account a driver’s previous race finish (25%), the car owner’s previous race finish (25%), the team’s position in owner points (35%), and the driver’s fastest lap from the previous race (15%). The driver with the lowest combined score earns the pole position.
Leading the field alongside Truex is points leader Denny Hamlin in second place, followed by William Byron in third, Kyle Larson in fourth, and Kevin Harvick in fifth.
This Sunday’s race at Dover is the sole event scheduled for the track in 2021, as its second race date was relocated to Nashville Superspeedway. This marks the first time since 1970 that Dover has not hosted two Cup Series races in a single season.
