Martin Truex Jr. secures pole position at Richmond following his victory at Martinsville.
Truex will share the front row with his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin for the upcoming race at Richmond on Sunday (3 p.m. ET, Fox). His triumph at Martinsville marked his second win of the season, making him the first driver to achieve two victories in 2021.
Chase Elliott will start from the third position next to his Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron, while Joey Logano will start in fifth place.
Due to the absence of practice or qualifying sessions prior to Saturday’s race, NASCAR utilized its qualifying formula to determine the starting lineup. The formula takes into account the driver’s finishing position from the previous race (25%), the car owner’s finishing position from the last event (25%), the team’s owner points standing (35%), and the driver’s fastest lap from the previous race (15%). The driver with the lowest combined number earns the pole position.
The race at Richmond marks the third consecutive Cup Series event at a short track, with the streak ending as the series moves to Talladega next week. The complete starting lineup for the Richmond race is listed below:
