Matt Brown believes Conor McGregor lost the desire to fight after Dustin Poirier ‘took his f*cking soul’

Could Conor McGregor’s UFC career be over?

It has been over three years since McGregor’s last fight, and there is no indication of when he might return to the octagon. Matt Brown has been vocal about his belief that McGregor will never fight again, a sentiment that gained more traction when Michael Chandler moved on from a potential matchup with McGregor after waiting for almost two years.

Brown expressed his doubts about McGregor’s return, stating, “It’s clear – he’s not grinding the way a guy getting ready to compete should be grinding.” Brown’s skepticism is further fueled by McGregor’s devastating leg injury in his last fight against Dustin Poirier, which marked his second consecutive loss.

Reflecting on McGregor’s career, Brown believes that something changed in McGregor after the Poirier fight, leading to a loss of desire to compete at the same level.

Brown’s assessment is in contrast to McGregor’s public statements expressing his eagerness to return to fighting. UFC CEO Dana White has suggested a potential return for McGregor in early 2025, but no opponent has been named yet.

With Chandler currently out of the picture as a potential opponent, Brown questions who McGregor could face upon his return, considering that the lightweight division has evolved significantly in McGregor’s absence.

Brown also highlights that a victory over McGregor may not necessarily lead to a title shot for the opponent, emphasizing that McGregor’s name value may be more beneficial in terms of financial gain rather than title contention.
