Max Holloway’s reign in the featherweight division seems to have come to an end.
After his defeat by Ilia Topuria at UFC 308, Holloway hinted at a move up to the lightweight division. He has now confirmed his decision to permanently make the switch.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Holloway expressed his excitement for this new chapter in his career. He stated, “Your boy, like I said, we’re only getting older. I’ve done 33 fights, this cut was easy, bro… but it takes a toll cutting weight, period, at whatever weight you are.”
Holloway has had previous success at lightweight, with notable fights against Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. Now, he is focused on fan-friendly matchups and creating a legacy in the 155-pound division.
Despite his accomplishments in the featherweight division, Holloway is eager to embrace new challenges at lightweight. He emphasized, “This is a new chapter. This is where we start. This is where we begin.”
Looking ahead, Holloway is excited about the potential matchups at 155 and is committed to staying in this weight class. He plans to take some time off to relax and heal before making his return to the octagon.
