Megan Anderson doesn’t see Kayla Harrison having long run at 135 pounds: ‘That weight cut is miserable for her’

Former Invicta FC champion and current UFC featherweight title contender Megan Anderson believes that Kayla Harrison may struggle to replicate Amanda Nunes’ long reign in the UFC, especially at bantamweight.

With the UFC discontinuing the 145-pound weight class after Nunes’ retirement, Harrison, a two-time PFL lightweight champion, made the move to compete at bantamweight. Despite securing wins over Holly Holm and Ketlen Vieira to earn a shot at Julianna Peña, Anderson questions how sustainable it will be for Harrison to make weight in the long run.

Anderson expressed concerns about the toll of weight cutting on women’s bodies, emphasizing that just because Harrison can make the weight doesn’t mean she should. While acknowledging Harrison’s dominance in her recent fights, Anderson worries about the impact on Harrison’s quality of life and longevity in the sport.

Despite the challenges, Anderson sees potential in the stylistic matchup between Harrison and Peña. Highlighting Peña’s resilience and championship mentality, Anderson predicts an intriguing battle between the two fighters.

While the UFC has yet to confirm the fight between Harrison and Peña, Anderson is optimistic about the matchup. She praises Peña’s tenacity and believes that the clash of styles between the two fighters could lead to an exciting contest.

Although Anderson would pick Nunes over Harrison in a hypothetical matchup, she doubts Nunes will return to compete at 135 pounds. As for the upcoming bout between Harrison and Peña, Anderson leans towards Harrison due to her striking ability and judo skills.

In conclusion, Anderson sees Harrison as the favorite to claim UFC gold against Peña, citing Harrison’s striking and grappling prowess as key factors in securing the victory.
