Jesse Winker is set to join the New York Mets after a trade deal with the Washington Nationals, as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Pending medical checks, Winker will be moving to his fifth team in the past four seasons just before the trade deadline on Tuesday.

The details of what the Nationals will receive in exchange have not been disclosed.
Winker, who signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Nationals in the offseason, has been performing well this season. He boasts a .253/.372/.417 slash line with 44 RBI and 11 home runs in 100 games with Washington, on track for one of his best seasons since his All-Star appearance in 2021.
With a 55-49 record, the Mets are closely trailing the Atlanta Braves for second place in the NL East and hold the final NL wild-card spot. The Nationals, on the other hand, are 7 games behind the Mets with a 48-56 record as they face the St. Louis Cardinals.
The MLB trade deadline is set for 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
