Mikel Arteta explains what Arsenal currently lack compared to Liverpool

Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, has acknowledged the team’s lack of “spark” is hindering their ability to secure victories and challenge for the Premier League title.

Injuries to key players such as Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and Bukayo Saka have left Arsenal with limited attacking options. Midfielder Mikel Merino has been deployed in a forward role in recent matches, but the team’s offensive struggles have been evident with only three shots on target in the last two games.

Following a 1-0 loss to West Ham United and a goalless draw with Nottingham Forest, Arteta conceded that Arsenal’s lack of creativity in front of goal is preventing them from challenging for trophies.

Reflecting on the recent results, Arteta expressed disappointment, stating, “We are here to win. We demonstrated determination and effort, but we fell short. We controlled the game, tried various approaches, but we were missing that crucial final pass to unlock a resilient opponent. We need to be more clinical in front of goal.”

Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo highlighted Arsenal’s attacking deficiencies by suggesting that he did not feel the need to adopt a defensive strategy as the Gunners lack a natural striker.

The absence of Havertz and Jesus until the next season, along with Saka and Martinelli’s unavailability until after the March international break, further compounds Arsenal’s attacking woes.
