This past weekend marked the return of Major League Baseball’s Players’ Weekend, an event that allows players to showcase their individuality and creativity by breaking away from traditional baseball norms. While this year’s Players’ Weekend did not include personalized jerseys, many players still managed to make a statement with custom bats and cleats on two out of the three themed days.

Friday kicked off with a “Fun” theme, highlighting players’ personalities, friendships, and off-field interests. Saturday focused on “Causes,” promoting charitable and community initiatives. Lastly, Sunday will be an “Appreciation” day to honor those who have influenced the players’ careers. A new addition this year is the players wearing team hats with their own numbers on the side.

Here are some of the standout moments from Players’ Weekend:

Ernie Clement of the Toronto Blue Jays and Harrison Bader of the New York Mets stood out with their pencil and crayon custom bat designs.

Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers paid tribute to his nickname “Skoob” with Scooby Doo-themed cleats.

Shelby Miller of the Tigers raised awareness for STXBP1 Disorder by wearing cleats in honor of his son Kyler, who suffers from the rare disorder.

Colt Keith, also from the Tigers, sported Fortnite-themed cleats, adding a touch of gaming to the field.

Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers showcased his dog Decoy on his cleats.

Ryan O’Hearn of the Baltimore Orioles honored his Irish heritage with green cleats featuring four-leaf clovers.

Maikel Garcia of the Kansas City Royals paid tribute to Kobe Bryant and Yordano Ventura with his cleats, remembering two sports heroes.
