MLS has shared the schedule for the upcoming 2025 regular season, set to commence on Saturday, Feb. 22 with a total of 13 games, featuring the league’s 30th and newest franchise, San Diego FC, facing off against the reigning champion Los Angeles Galaxy.
The 2025 schedule structure will involve all 30 teams playing 34 games, split evenly between 17 home and 17 away matches. Teams will compete against conference rivals twice and play six different cross-conference opponents.
Key points from the recently unveiled schedule include:
-
Lionel Messi and Inter Miami, the reigning Supporters’ Shield champions, will kick off their season at home against New York City FC on Feb. 22.
-
The Leagues Cup, a CONCACAF competition between LIGA MX and MLS teams, is scheduled to take place from July 29 to Aug. 31. This year, the tournament will occur during both leagues’ regular seasons, eliminating the need to pause league schedules for its duration.
-
The MLS season will pause briefly from June 15 to 24 to accommodate the FIFA Club World Cup and CONCACAF Gold Cup. Multiple venues will host matches for both tournaments, with Inter Miami and the Seattle Sounders participating in the Club World Cup.
-
MLS Decision Day, the final day of the regular season, is set for Saturday, Oct. 18, with Eastern Conference matches starting at 6 p.m. ET and Western Conference games kicking off at 9 p.m. ET. On this day, NYCFC will host the Seattle Sounders in the only inter-conference game.
-
In celebration of its 30th season, the San Jose Earthquakes will host D.C. United on April 6, marking the 29th anniversary of the league’s inaugural match. Additionally, a rematch of the first MLS Cup between the Galaxy and D.C. United is scheduled for July 12.
-
The All-Star Game for the upcoming season will be hosted by Austin FC on Wednesday, July 23. Preceding the game, the MLS Skills Challenge will make a return. The format for the All-Star Game is yet to be announced, following last season’s 4-1 victory by a LIGA MX All-Star team over the MLS All-Stars in Columbus, Ohio.
