Welcome to the Monday Leaderboard, where we recap the weekend’s top stories in the world of golf. Grab an Arnold Palmer, take a seat, and ponder the fine line between joy and heartbreak…

1. Viktor Hovland emerges victorious; Justin Thomas falls short

Golf can be a fickle game. Viktor Hovland, coming off three missed cuts, managed to secure a win at the Valspar Championship with a late surge on Sunday. Meanwhile, Justin Thomas, holding a three-stroke lead with three holes to go, stumbled to finish second. Hovland’s victory was a much-needed boost, despite dropping in the world rankings.

Thomas, while disappointed, remained optimistic about his future performances, aiming to redeem himself at the upcoming Masters tournament.

The disappointment continued for Sergio Garcia, as a missed putt cost him an Open Championship exemption. However, hope remains as he vies for a spot through LIV’s individual points standings.

3. Adam Hadwin’s outburst at the Valspar Championship

The Valspar Championship saw another display of frustration, this time from Adam Hadwin, who took his anger out on a sprinkler head. A reminder that emotions run high on the golf course.

4. TGL Championship Update

TGL’s inaugural season comes to a close with a championship event featuring Thomas, Atlanta Drive GC, Xander Schauffele, and New York Golf Club. Despite the absence of major stars like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, TGL has carved a niche in the winter golf landscape.

5. Future golf stars shine at junior invitational

The Sage Valley Invitational showcased the talents of young golfers, including Charlie Woods and Kai Trump. While Woods and Trump didn’t top the leaderboard, their performances hinted at a bright future in the sport.

The Valspar Championship’s trophy, a unique and striking piece, reflects the intensity of the competition. Hovland’s win almost didn’t happen, but his decision to participate paid off in the end.

Shot of the Week: A Perfect Ace

Sam Ryder’s hole-in-one at the 17th hole during the Valspar Championship added excitement to his round, despite a mixed bag of results. This shot epitomizes the thrill of hitting a perfect shot on the course.

Upcoming Events: PGA Tour: Texas Children’s Houston Open; LPGA: Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass (Arizona); TGL: Finals, Atlanta Drive GC vs. New York Golf Club.
