Fenerbahce’s head coach, Jose Mourinho, once again made headlines for his involvement in a confrontation, this time with Galatasaray’s Okan Buruk during a Turkish Cup match on Wednesday.
Following Fenerbahce’s defeat, Mourinho was seen grabbing Buruk’s nose, sparking further tension on the field.
The game featured Victor Osimhen scoring two goals for the visiting team, leading to escalating tensions and a brawl that resulted in three red cards being issued by the referee. Fenerbahce’s Mert Hakan Yandas and Galatasaray’s Baris Alper Yilmaz and Kerem Demirbay were all sent off.
Amidst the chaos, Mourinho was captured on camera gripping Buruk’s nose, causing the Galatasaray coach to fall dramatically to the ground, holding his face in pain.
After the match, Galatasaray’s official X account shared a photo of Buruk smiling in Mourinho’s direction, with a caption that read, “YOU SHOULD NOT ATTACK, YOU SHOULD DIGEST!” accompanied by a shushing emoji.
On social media, the club also posted an animated clip featuring a cartoon version of Mourinho with the caption, “Galatasaray drives you crazy.”
This incident adds to Mourinho’s controversial season, which has seen him frequently criticize refereeing in Turkey and receive a four-game suspension in February for remarks made about match officials following a previous match against Galatasaray.
Furthermore, Mourinho was accused of racism by Galatasaray after the same match, with the club condemning his comments as “unequivocally inhumane rhetoric.” Mourinho took legal action against the club over the allegations.
His actions on the pitch during the recent match could lead to a further ban for the Portuguese manager.
