The highly anticipated matchup between French prospects Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr, the top two picks in the 2024 NBA Draft, did not disappoint during their NBA Summer League debuts in Las Vegas.
Sarr’s Wizards emerged victorious with a 94-86 win, as the 7-foot center showcased his skills with 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four blocks. Sarr’s defensive prowess was on full display, including an impressive sequence of three blocks in just 20 seconds of game time.
Despite being selected after Risacher, many viewed Sarr as the top talent in the draft. His decision to avoid working out with the Hawks solidified his desire to join the Wizards, where he aims to be a defensive anchor and a threat on offense, similar to Chet Holmgren’s impact with the Thunder last season.
On the other hand, the Wizards’ 14th overall pick, Bub Carrington, had a standout performance with 18 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.
Risacher, on the other hand, displayed his versatility with 18 points and five rebounds for a team lacking other standout players.
While the game may not have generated as much buzz as Victor Wembanyama’s debut last season, both Risacher and Sarr showed promise for their respective teams. Sarr will look to continue making an impact against the Houston Rockets, led by the third overall pick Reed Sheppard, while Risacher will face off against the San Antonio Spurs in their next games on Sunday.
