Nelly Korda is making her official return to the LPGA Tour this week at the Amundi Evian Championship after being sidelined last month due to a dog bite. The world’s top-ranked golfer missed the cut at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship before the unfortunate incident occurred.
Following her early exit from the major tournament in Seattle, Korda was bitten by a dog while sitting at a coffee shop. This forced her to withdraw from the Aramco Team Series event in London. Although details about the bite have not been disclosed, Korda did discuss the experience with fellow LPGA Tour player Alison Lee, who had a similar encounter earlier this year.
“It’s an unfortunate circumstance and definitely scary,” Lee shared her thoughts on Korda’s incident, via Golf Monthly. “She got bitten by a dog that she didn’t know, it was just at a random coffee shop. I am hoping for a speedy recovery for her.”
Fortunately, Korda’s injury seems to be less severe compared to Lee’s experience. Despite the setback, Korda has had an impressive season with six LPGA Tour victories, including a remarkable streak of five consecutive wins. She also secured her second major championship title at the Chevron Championship.
Following her triumph at the Mizuho Americas Open, Korda faced three consecutive missed cuts, including at the last two major championships. However, she has a strong track record at the Evian Championship, finishing in the top 10 in her last two appearances. The tournament is set to begin on Thursday at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Évian-les-Bains, France.
