Nelly Korda has made the difficult decision to withdraw from an upcoming event on the Ladies European Tour in London after a dog bite incident.
The defending champion of the tournament shared that she sustained the injury while in Seattle for the Women’s PGA Championship.
“I regret to announce that I must withdraw from next week’s Ladies European Tour tournament in London,” Korda wrote on Instagram. “On Saturday in Seattle, I was bitten by a dog and need time to receive treatment and recover fully.”
“I apologize to the LET, the sponsors, and my fans for my absence. Thank you for understanding, and I look forward to returning to the course soon.”
The world’s No. 1 player, 25-year-old Nelly Korda, had a disappointing performance at the last week’s event at Sahalee Country Club, missing the cut. Despite this setback, she has had a successful season with six wins out of her 14 career LPGA Tour victories, including a streak of five consecutive wins.
Korda is now looking ahead to defending her gold medal as part of the U.S. team at the upcoming Olympics in Paris next month.
Following her withdrawal, the golfing world will eagerly anticipate the Evian Championship, the fourth major of the 2024 LPGA season, scheduled to take place from July 11-14 in Évian-les-Bains, France.
