Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar amazed fans with a stunning play during Sunday’s game, snatching a home run away from Mookie Betts.
Profar’s cheeky celebration, fooling both Betts and the Fox broadcast team into thinking the ball had gone over the wall, added an extra layer of excitement to the game.
The incredible play occurred in the first inning of Game 2 of the NLDS, with the Padres leading 1-0. Betts hit a deep fly ball off Yu Darvish towards the left-field stands, where Profar made a leaping catch just inches away from Dodgers fans.
After the catch, Profar playfully taunted the fans and Betts by pretending the ball had gone out of the park. Betts even started his home-run trot before realizing what had actually happened.
Thanks to Profar’s acrobatics, the Padres maintained their lead and prevented the Dodgers from scoring in the first inning.
During an interview with Fox’s Ken Rosenthal, Profar expressed his joy at successfully robbing a home run in a crucial playoff game.
“It was an amazing moment for me,” Profar said. “I’ve always wanted to make a play like that, and to do it in the postseason was incredible.”
When asked about his interaction with the fans after the catch, Profar revealed, “I didn’t say anything. I was just focused on catching the ball amidst all the chaos.”
Profar’s spectacular performance in the playoffs showcased his skill and determination on the field, earning him praise from fans and teammates alike.
