Noah Lyles finds himself in the spotlight once again.
The Olympic sprinter sparked controversy with his recent comments about three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic. Lyles, 27, shared his thoughts on the “Nightcap” podcast hosted by Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson.
In 2023, Lyles caused a stir within the NBA when he questioned the use of the term “world champions” by NBA titleholders.
“It bothers me to see ‘world champion’ during the NBA Finals,” Lyles stated. “World champion of what? Just the United States? I have nothing against the U.S., but that doesn’t represent the entire world.”
The Team USA athlete, who clinched gold in the 100m sprint at the 2024 Paris Olympics, revisited his NBA-related controversy with Sharpe and Johnson. During the discussion, Lyles was asked about his views on Jokic, the three-time MVP.

What Noah Lyles had to say about Nikola Jokic
While engaging in NBA-related conversations, Sharpe inquired if Lyles considered Jokic to be the best basketball player globally. Surprisingly, Lyles admitted he was unfamiliar with Jokic.
“Honestly, I’m not sure who that is,” Lyles confessed.

Given Lyles’ history of NBA controversies, his statement could be interpreted as another dig at the accomplished MVP. Lyles has previously engaged in disputes with NBA standout Anthony Edwards, NFL star Tyreek Hill, and even Canada’s 4×100 relay team.
This time, however, Lyles genuinely seemed unaware of Jokic. Nevertheless, NBA enthusiasts are already perturbed by the track star’s comments.
Considering his track record with NBA personalities, fans are inclined to believe that Lyles is once again provoking reactions intentionally.
Jokic excels in his sport more than Lyles ever will in his. This individual is incredibly insufferable.
