Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Jon Rahm are just a few of the standout names who have secured a spot in the full 60-man Olympic field, which was officially unveiled on Tuesday morning.
Xander Schauffele, the reigning gold medalist from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, will also be competing alongside two other American contenders, Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark. Unfortunately, Bryson DeChambeau, who competes on the non-Official World Golf Rankings-tracked LIV Golf tour, did not make the cut due to the Olympic qualifying criteria.
The roster is packed with recognizable names in the golf world, ranging from Ludvig Åberg, who recently led the U.S. Open, to Viktor Hovland, the defending Tour Championship victor, and Hideki Matsuyama, the 2021 Masters champion. The top 15 ranked players headline the field, resulting in four representatives from the United States— the maximum limit per country. The remaining 45 players received at-large bids, with a maximum of two players per nation. The women’s field will be revealed after the June 24 qualification deadline.
The Olympic golf competition will follow a familiar format: four days of stroke play at Le Golf National near Paris, the site of the thrilling 2018 Ryder Cup. The men’s tournament is scheduled for August 1 to 4, while the women’s competition will take place from August 10 to 13.
