The Baltimore Orioles are on the lookout for starting pitching at the MLB trade deadline, but they are also considering adding a top-notch closer to their roster.
According to a report by Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the Orioles are actively pursuing big-name relievers, with Oakland Athletics’ standout rookie Mason Miller being on their radar.
Miller, known for his impressive 103-mph fastball and being under team control for the next five years, will come at a high price if the Orioles aim to acquire him from Oakland.
The rookie pitcher is a strong contender for the American League Rookie of the Year award, boasting 15 saves, a 2.27 ERA, 70 strikeouts, 14 walks, and a remarkable 0.86 WHIP in 39.2 innings pitched.
While the Orioles possess a talented farm system, it remains uncertain whether they will make a significant move given their pressing need for starting rotation reinforcements.
Although starters Corbin Burnes and Grayson Rodriguez have performed well for the division-leading Orioles, there is a clear need to bolster the pitching rotation.
Reports suggest that Baltimore is working on a prospect package in pursuit of Detroit Tigers’ ace Tarik Skubal, although it is unlikely that the Tigers will part ways with the Cy Young favorite before the July 30 deadline.
The Orioles have been a formidable force in MLB this season, and the addition of Miller to their already strong bullpen could position them as frontrunners for the pennant.
