The Baltimore Orioles are currently in a challenging phase at the beginning of the 2025 season, with a record of 12-18 and sitting at the bottom of the AL East. Despite this rough start, Orioles general manager Mike Elias has expressed confidence in manager Brandon Hyde during a press conference before the Friday game against the Kansas City Royals.
According to a report by Jacob Calvin Meyer of the Baltimore Sun, Elias stated, “I’m very confident in Brandon Hyde. I think that you look at the job of a major league manager, and it would take me 45 minutes to talk about everything that goes into the job of a major league manager, but when things are going great and they have at times here, we’ve had that, and then when we’re experiencing failure, it’s really important in that job and in my job, too, to be consistent with your approach, and he’s doing that.”
Despite the Orioles’ disappointing start, Elias defended Hyde’s position and emphasized the consistency within the team since 2022. The Orioles are facing challenges not only with their performance but also with injuries affecting key players like Kyle Bradish, Grayson Rodriguez, Colton Cowser, Tyler O’Neill, and Jordan Westburg.
In addition to their injury woes, the Orioles have struggled with their starting rotation, which has contributed to their current struggles. The team’s lackluster performance against left-handed pitching and their high number of players on the injured list have added to their difficulties.
While Hyde has been under scrutiny due to the team’s poor performance, it is important to acknowledge that the issues the Orioles are facing extend beyond the manager. The team’s struggles with pitching, hitting, and injuries have created a challenging environment for the Orioles this season.
