PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and Player Director Adam Scott recently met with President Donald Trump at the White House to discuss negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and LIV Golf. While the outcome of the meeting remains unknown, talks between the leagues have been ongoing for over a year with little progress. Monahan, Scott, and Tiger Woods released a joint statement acknowledging the meeting, although it is unclear if Woods was present in Washington D.C.
In the statement, they thanked President Trump for his interest and support of golf, expressing optimism that his involvement could lead to a final deal between the leagues. Trump, a passionate golfer, has previously stated his confidence in being able to facilitate a deal between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour swiftly. Negotiations between the leagues began following Monahan’s surprising merger announcement in June 2023, and while progress has been made, a final agreement has yet to be reached.
Trump’s Florida course is scheduled to host a LIV Golf tournament in April, and he has been a frequent presence at LIV Golf events in recent years. Despite not being present at the meeting, golfer Justin Thomas, a member of the 2025 Player Advisory Council, expressed hope that the talks are moving in a positive direction.
As the negotiations continue, the golf world eagerly anticipates a resolution between the leagues, with Trump’s involvement potentially playing a crucial role in reaching a final agreement. The future of men’s professional golf hangs in the balance as discussions progress towards a potential reunification of the sport.
