Jordan Spieth is no longer at risk of being disqualified for a scorecard error on the PGA Tour. In a recent announcement ahead of the Travelers Championship, the Tour revealed a new rule that allows players a 15-minute window to correct any mistakes on their scorecard after a round, even if they have already left the scoring area. This amendment applies to the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour, and all other major golf leagues.
This change comes after Spieth was disqualified earlier this year at the Genesis Invitational for signing an incorrect scorecard. Despite his mistake, Spieth was not trying to cheat, as his bogey on a hole was accurately reflected on the leaderboard and the broadcast. However, he left the scoring area before correcting the error, leading to his automatic disqualification.
Spieth, a 13-time PGA Tour winner, has since expressed his regret over the incident and has taken full responsibility for the error. With three top-10 finishes this season and a recent T41 finish at the U.S. Open, Spieth is looking to bounce back at the TPC River Highlands this week before heading to the British Open next month.
Thanks to the new rule, Spieth now has the opportunity to correct any scorecard mistakes within the 15-minute window, ensuring that he won’t face disqualification for a simple error.
