Tim Hardaway Jr., forward for the Detroit Pistons, was wheeled off the court on Tuesday night after sustaining multiple head injuries during their game against the Miami Heat.
Hardaway, as reported by NBA insider Chris Haynes, received stitches for injuries to his face and the back of his head. While an initial CAT scan came back negative, further details about his condition have not been disclosed.
In the third quarter of the NBA Cup game at Little Caesars Arena, Hardaway was accidentally elbowed by Bam Adebayo of the Heat. Despite the impact, no foul was called. Hardaway then hit the back of his head on the court while attempting to take a charge, leading to his extended time on the floor.
After being attended to, Hardaway was taken off the court in a wheelchair with a towel over his head and did not return to the game. He finished the night with 11 points and is averaging 12.6 points per game this season.
“I didn’t really get to see it when it happened live, but they said he’s OK and just getting evaluated,” Tobias Harris said, via the Detroit Free Press’ Omari Sankofa. “We’re praying for him and making sure that he’s alright, because he’s a huge piece to our team.”
The Pistons secured a 123-121 overtime victory, aided by a crucial error from Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. The team, now 5-7, will face the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday.
