Cain Velasquez’s sentencing has been announced, and it’s more lenient than expected.
The former UFC heavyweight champion has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading no-contest to charges including premeditated attempted murder, felony assault, and gun-related charges stemming from an incident in 2022.
Velasquez was arrested in February 2022 after a high-speed car chase targeting a man accused of molesting his son. He fired shots at the vehicle, injuring the man’s stepfather. The State District Attorney had originally sought a much harsher sentence of 30 years to life.
Velasquez will receive credit for time already served.
In response to the sentencing, MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck and Damon Martin provide their reactions. You can watch the video above or listen to the audio version on various platforms like Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Spotify.
