Real Madrid have reportedly initiated talks with the representatives of Arsenal defender William Saliba concerning a potential transfer next summer, as per a report from France.
Saliba, who has been a key figure in Arsenal’s defense since his return from Marseille in 2022, has established himself as a stalwart at the back. Despite a back injury that cut short his first full season in 2022/23, Saliba has been a mainstay in the team, missing just one of the last 59 Premier League matches.
Known for his exceptional mental acuity and physical abilities, Saliba is widely regarded as one of the top center-backs in the world, attracting interest from top clubs like Real Madrid.
According to a report by Foot Mercato, Real Madrid have made contact with Saliba’s camp. Although no defensive reinforcements are expected in January, a move for Saliba could be on the cards in the summer.
Real Madrid are in need of defensive reinforcements, especially with injuries to key players like Eder Militao and David Alaba, forcing them to deploy makeshift solutions in defense.
Saliba’s potential transfer would come at a significant cost due to his long-term contract with Arsenal. Madrid is also considering other options like RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba, but Saliba remains a top priority for the club.
