Just a few weeks ago, the Boston Red Sox made the decision to send starting pitcher Cooper Criswell back to Triple-A Worcester in order to bring veteran reliever Chris Martin onto their roster.
Surprisingly, Criswell has now been named the International League Player of the Week after delivering an impressive performance against the Syracuse Mets, pitching six innings of scoreless, one-hit baseball.
The 27-year-old has been demonstrating consistency in Boston, with a 4.15 ERA and a 1.212 WHIP in his 12 appearances (11 starts). His performance in Worcester has been even more impressive, boasting a 1.40 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP in his five starts.
Considering Josh Winckowski’s recent struggles on the mound, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Criswell called back up to rejoin the rotation in the near future.
