During free agency, the Denver Broncos were one of the teams that reached out to running back Josh Jacobs, as reported by Rob Demovsky from ESPN. However, Jacobs ultimately chose to sign with the Green Bay Packers, citing his desire to join a contender rather than a rebuilding team, which led to the Broncos being eliminated from consideration.

Jacobs expressed his preference for helping a contending team like the Packers succeed, stating that he did not want to be part of a rebuilding situation. He mentioned his desire to immediately make an impact and contribute to a team that could potentially win a championship.
“I didn’t want to go to a team where I felt like I was going to be in a rebuilding situation. I didn’t want to go to a team where I didn’t feel like I was going to come in and immediately make an impact and be able to be one of the factors to get over the hump.”
According to Demovsky, the Broncos, Cardinals, and Giants all contacted Jacobs during free agency, but the Broncos were unable to secure his services. Jacobs reportedly took a lower salary with the Packers compared to what other teams offered him, though it is unclear if the Broncos were among those teams.
While the Broncos did not sign Jacobs, they did address their running back situation by drafting Audric Estime from Notre Dame in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and signing undrafted rookie Blake Watson. Additionally, Javonte Williams, a former second-round pick, has shown improvement and explosiveness in training camp. The Broncos’ efforts to bolster their backfield reflect their commitment to improving the team this offseason.
