Burnley has made a significant move in the transfer market by securing the signing of Joao Mendes, the son of legendary footballer Ronaldinho. The young talent has joined Burnley after departing Barcelona, where he had been a part of the youth setup.
Photographs of Mendes holding a Burnley shirt went viral on social media, confirming his move to Turf Moor on a two-year contract.
Having previously played for various Brazilian clubs, including Flamengo and Vasco da Gama, Mendes, who turned 19 in February, is now ready to make his mark at Burnley.
The young winger, who has yet to feature in a senior game, trained occasionally with Barcelona’s first team before his move to Lancashire.
Born in Rio De Janeiro in 2005 to Ronaldinho and Janaina Mendes, Joao Mendes signed a sponsorship deal with Nike in 2019, hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps.
As Mendes begins his journey at Burnley, fellow Brazilian players Vitinho and Lucas Pires will provide support in adapting to the new environment.
With new manager Scott Parker at the helm, Burnley aims for a quick return to the Premier League after their recent relegation. The club has high hopes for Mendes and their other new signings.
