Ruben Amorim has expressed his sympathy for the up to 200 Manchester United staff facing job losses as part of cost-cutting measures, emphasizing the importance of better on-field performances to support the club as a whole.
After last summer’s 250 job cuts, United announced on Monday that between 150 and 200 more redundancies are expected as they aim to address financial losses over the past five seasons.
Amorim, struggling to balance his tactical vision with short-term results, suggested at a press conference that the club’s lack of success on the pitch has hindered overall progress.
United’s extravagant spending in the transfer market and on high salaries for underperforming players, coupled with repeated failures to reach the Champions League, has contributed to their financial woes.
“We need to address all club issues, but the lack of success of the football team has played a significant role in our current situation. We are the driving force,” Amorim stated.
“My focus is on improving the team and players to achieve success.”
The head coach acknowledged that witnessing the struggles is tough for everyone.
“Seeing colleagues lose their jobs is hard for all of us. We must focus on how we can help the club in this situation and reflect on what led us here,” he added. “Solutions need to be found.”
“Winning games is already challenging, especially this year. The club has undergone significant changes, and success on the field can help fans embrace these changes more easily.”
