Former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria has expressed concerns regarding India’s participation in the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, slated to be held in Pakistan.
Citing ongoing political tensions and security issues in the region, Kaneria advised that the Indian team should consider avoiding traveling to Pakistan for the tournament. “Considering the current situation in Pakistan, I believe the Indian team should refrain from visiting Pakistan, and Pakistan should contemplate this as well before the ICC makes a decision,” Kaneria mentioned in an interview with Sports Tak.
He underlined that the players’ well-being and security must take precedence in any decisions concerning the tournament.
To address these concerns, Kaneria suggested a hybrid model for the tournament, where some matches could be held in Pakistan while India’s matches could take place at neutral venues, possibly in Dubai.

“Player safety is paramount. Respect is the next priority. There are various factors to consider. I believe BCCI is handling the situation well. I anticipate that all nations will abide by the final decision. I predict it will be a hybrid model with matches in Dubai,” Kaneria further added.
Cricketing relations between India and Pakistan have been strained for years, with no bilateral series since 2013. The recent Asia Cup also adopted a hybrid model due to similar concerns.
While there were reports suggesting that India’s matches might take place in Lahore, near the Indian border, the final verdict is still pending. As deliberations continue, the ultimate decision lies with the ICC and the PCB.
