In an exciting matchup between two undefeated welterweights, Shavkat Rakhmonov will go head-to-head with Ian Machado Garry in a five-round co-main event at UFC 310 on December 7th, set to take place at the iconic T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The announcement of this thrilling new bout was made by UFC President Dana White on Friday.
The showdown between Rakhmonov and Garry was arranged after current UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad had to withdraw from the event due to a toe infection. The winner of this matchup is expected to face Muhammad in his first title defense upon his return next year.
Garry eagerly accepted the fight after originally being slated to headline the UFC Tampa card a week later against Joaquin Buckley on December 14th. Following Muhammad’s withdrawal from UFC 310, Garry wasted no time in calling out Rakhmonov for the fight, a wish that has now been granted.
Meanwhile, Rakhmonov steps into the octagon against Garry after initially preparing to challenge Muhammad for the undisputed title. Instead, he now has the opportunity to compete for interim gold, with both fighters boasting flawless records heading into the highly anticipated event on December 7th.
The Rakhmonov vs. Garry showdown will serve as the co-main event, with flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja defending his title in the main event against former RIZIN champion Kai Asakura, who will be making his UFC debut.
