The Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy-backed indoor team golf league, TGL, has revealed its full schedule. The league consists of six teams comprising two dozen PGA Tour players and will premiere on ESPN in early January, coinciding with the NFL playoffs, and will continue weekly until late March.
Matches will take place on Tuesday nights at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, featuring team golf competitions lasting approximately two hours. The facility is equipped with high-tech golf simulators, screens, greens, and can accommodate around 1,500 live fans in seats and suites.
The season will include 15 regular-season matches, followed by a four-team playoff and a two-team best-of-three championship series. Each match will consist of 15 holes, with nine dedicated to team play and six for singles match play.
TGL incorporates a unique gameplay combining screen technology for “drives” and an adjustable green for approaches and putting. The league has designed 30 holes, utilizing 15 for each match.
The six teams are associated with different cities and owned by various owners and ownership groups from different sports backgrounds, including Steve Cohen of the Mets, Arthur Blank of the Falcons, and Fenway Sports Group of the Red Sox.
The league’s inaugural match on Jan. 7 will feature New York Golf Club against Bay Golf Club, followed by Jupiter Links Golf Club facing Los Angeles Golf Club on Jan. 14. Subsequent matches will see Atlanta Drive GC and Boston Common GC entering the competition.
Announced by McIlroy and Woods under their joint venture TMRW Sports in August 2022, TGL aims to fill the gap in team golf outside of traditional events like the Ryder Cup. The league has a comprehensive web and social media presence, along with merchandise and videos, to engage fans and establish strong branding connections.
The playoffs will conclude in late March, paving the way for the start of the major golf season, including the Masters.
