Ludvig Åberg wasted no time following his victory at Torrey Pines over the weekend.
Immediately after winning the Genesis Invitational in Southern California, Åberg jetted across the country to help lead The Bay GC to a dominant win against Justin Thomas and Atlanta Drive GC in the second of three TGL matches on Monday.
The Bay secured a 6-5 victory in their first match of the day in Florida, as part of a special Presidents Day triple-header. This came after Thomas’ thrilling overtime comeback with a chip-in to defeat Los Angeles Golf Club.
The Bay quickly took a 3-0 lead, with Min Woo Lee making a clutch chip-in on the fourth hole after a brief timeout on the green. Despite Atlanta Drive GC responding on the fifth hole, Lucas Glover missed a crucial opportunity to take the lead on the next hole. However, Glover redeemed himself with a chip-in on the ninth, keeping The Bay’s lead intact as they headed into singles.
The turning point came on the 13th hole when Clark won with a hammer throw, followed by Åberg’s impressive shot on the par-3 14th. Åberg narrowly missed an ace, which would have been a first in competition.
Thomas had a chance to force overtime on the last hole, but his putt fell short, giving The Bay the narrow victory.
Justin Thomas leads Atlanta out of hole
In the afternoon matchup, previously unbeaten Atlanta Drive GC faced off against Los Angeles Golf Club.
LAGC took an early lead on the third hole, but the match was tied on the next hole when Justin Thomas used The Hammer for Atlanta. The teams remained deadlocked at 2-2 after the seventh hole.
LAGC managed to take a 5-2 lead, but Atlanta rallied to bring the score to 5-4 on Hole 13. In overtime, Atlanta clinched the win with a closest-to-the-pin challenge.
With this victory, Atlanta briefly improved to 2-0 before falling to 2-1, while LAGC suffered its first loss of the season and dropped to 2-1.
