The Pittsburgh Pirates dominated the New York Mets with a 14-2 victory, setting off a record-tying seven homers celebration at PNC Park. The lack of fireworks post-game was evident as they had all been used up in the festivities.
The Pirates’ explosive offense came to life in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring 14 unanswered runs after initially falling behind 2-0 to the Mets. Rowdy Tellez, Jack Suwinski, Bryan Reynolds, Yasmani Grandal, and Michael A. Taylor each contributed to the homer barrage, with Tellez and Reynolds hitting grand slams.
Mets pitchers Luis Severino and Ty Adcock bore the brunt of the Pirates’ power display, surrendering a total of seven home runs between them. Adcock’s ERA skyrocketed from 3.38 to 14.54 after his rough outing.
Rookie sensation Paul Skenes also shined for the Pirates, pitching seven strong innings and further bolstering the team’s impressive performance.
With the win, the Pirates now hold a 42-45 record, putting them within striking distance of a wild-card spot in the NL.
