J.J. Spaun is currently leading The Players Championship after Day 3, holding a one-shot lead over Bud Cauley with a score of 12-under. Spaun shot a 70 in challenging, windy conditions at TPC Sawgrass.
Spaun heads into the final round with confidence, stating that he will approach Sunday’s round as just another day on the course. Despite only winning one Tour event in his career, Spaun feels like he has nothing to lose going into the final day.
“Just address it as another round,” he told Sky Sports. “I know what’s at stake – I’ve won on Tour before. We have had the atmosphere of having nothing to lose and it’s worked out really well so far. We’re going to keep that going tomorrow.”
Lucas Glover and Alex Smalley are tied for third at -9, while Rory McIlroy sits in a three-way tie for fifth at -8. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler struggled in the windy conditions, finishing the day tied for 16th at -5.
Other players, like Will Zalatoris and Billy Horschel, also faced challenges during the third round. Zalatoris fell from 11-under to tie for 33rd, while Horschel expressed frustration with his swing before hitting a ball into the water on No. 17.
Collin Morikawa had a tough day with eight bogeys, leaving him tied for 22nd at 4-under. The PGA Tour announced that tee times for the final round have been moved up to 8 a.m. ET due to expected severe weather, with live TV coverage starting at 10 a.m. ET on Golf Channel and Peacock.
