Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has criticized co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe for the detrimental impact of his new regime on the club, stating that they have “destroyed everything” and lack respect for the club’s values.
Ratcliffe’s aggressive approach to business, which led to his immense wealth through founding INEOS in 1998, has not translated well into his efforts to revitalize Manchester United.
The cost-cutting measures implemented by the new regime have negatively impacted the club’s staff, resulting in significant job losses and reductions in benefits and perks.
Reports of insensitivity towards the family of a deceased former employee and the discontinuation of support for ex-players have further fueled the criticism against Ratcliffe’s leadership.
In response to the backlash, former players like Gary Neville have stepped in to provide assistance and support for those affected by the changes.
Cantona expressed his concern over the erosion of the club’s essence during an event held by FC United of Manchester, highlighting the need to rediscover the club’s soul.
He criticized the current directors for their lack of respect and their disregard for the values that once defined Manchester United as a close-knit family.
Cantona also lamented the rejection of his offer to help rebuild the club and expressed disillusionment with the club’s current direction, questioning whether he would still choose to support United if he were not already a fan.
His remarks underscored a growing divide between the club’s traditional values and the new administration’s focus on financial gains and strategic decisions.
