Incoming England manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Harry Kane will continue as the team’s captain.
Kane was appointed England captain by former manager Gareth Southgate before the 2018 World Cup and has been instrumental in the Three Lions’ recent success in international football.
Ahead of taking over the team in 2025, Tuchel has affirmed that he has no intention of removing Kane as captain.
“There is currently no need to consider other options,” Tuchel stated in an interview with Sky Sports News following the 2026 World Cup qualifying draw. “I have great respect for Harry, not just for his skills but also for his leadership and character.”
“I am delighted to have a team of players like Harry, who bring both talent and strong personalities to the squad. My goal is to create a team that excites and inspires fans,” Tuchel added.
Tuchel also mentioned that he has not yet discussed the captaincy with Southgate but looks forward to meeting with him soon.
“I have not had the chance to speak with him yet, but I hope to do so soon,” Tuchel said. “I have great respect for him and our previous interactions have been positive.”
