Tiger Woods recently underwent another surgery on his back, as announced on Friday. The procedure, known as “microdecompression surgery of the lumbar spine for nerve impingement in the lower back,” was disclosed in a statement shared on social media.
“The surgery went smoothly, and I’m hopeful this will help alleviate the back spasms and pain I was experiencing throughout most of the 2024 season,” Woods stated in the announcement. “I look forward to tackling this rehab and preparing myself to get back to normal life activities, including golf.”
Following his last competitive appearance at the British Open in July, where he missed the cut, Woods, 48, has faced challenges in finishing tournaments. He was unable to complete the Masters, PGA Championship, and U.S. Open consecutively.
Although Woods was not scheduled to participate in any more events this year, he typically takes part in the Hero World Championship in the Bahamas, which supports his TGR Foundation. Additionally, he has participated in the PNC Championship with his son, Charlie, in late December in recent years.
This recent surgery marks the sixth procedure Woods has undergone on his back, but it is the first since 2021. More recently, Woods has been hindered by injuries to his right leg sustained in a car accident in 2022.
