Tiger Woods Withdraws from Genesis Invitational Due to Mother’s Passing
Tiger Woods has decided to withdraw from the upcoming Genesis Invitational following the recent passing of his mother, Katilda. Woods made the announcement on Monday, just days after being confirmed as a participant in the tournament scheduled to take place at Torrey Pines this week.
In his statement, Woods expressed his disappointment at not being able to compete, stating, “I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready. I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss.”
Woods went on to thank everyone for their support during this difficult time, adding, “I hope to be at Torrey later in the week and appreciate the continued kindness since my mom’s passing.”
The Genesis Invitational, typically held at The Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, has been relocated to Torrey Pines in La Jolla due to recent wildfires in the area. Torrey Pines holds a special place in Woods’ heart, having been the site of several of his victories, including the memorable 2008 U.S. Open.
Despite his eagerness to return to competitive golf, Woods has faced numerous setbacks in recent years due to injuries, including a serious car crash in 2021. His last professional appearance was at the British Open last summer, followed by an exhibition event with his son in December.
As for his future plans, it remains uncertain when Woods will make his return to the PGA Tour. Fans will have to wait and see if he will be ready for upcoming events such as the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship, and the Masters.
