Tiger Woods is making his return to competitive golf at the upcoming Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines near San Diego. The tournament, which Woods hosts, announced his participation on Friday.
Since his last outdoor tournament at The Open last summer, Woods has been seen at events like the PNC Championship with his son Charlie and the TGL indoor golf league that he co-founded. Recently, Woods’ Jupiter Links Golf Club triumphed over Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf Club in a simulated match. While his performance on a simulator may not fully indicate his readiness for a full tournament, Woods’ strong swings contributed to his team’s victory.
In recent years, Woods has faced various injuries and surgeries that have impacted his golf game. Apart from the Masters, he has not finished a major tournament since the 2020 season, with only 47th and 60th place finishes in that time at Augusta National.
Tragically, Woods also recently experienced the passing of his mother, Tida Woods, who was a significant figure in his life and golf career.
Due to wildfires in Los Angeles, the Genesis Invitational has been relocated from the Riviera Country Club to Torrey Pines. The tournament is set to kick off on Feb. 13.
