Detroit’s playoff chances got a boost as the Minnesota Twins and the Kansas City Royals suffered losses, helping the Tigers move up in the wild-card race.
Jobe, 22, had an impressive season in the minor leagues, posting a 2.36 ERA with 96 strikeouts in 91 2/3 innings. He was Detroit’s top pick in the 2021 MLB Draft and quickly rose through the ranks to Triple-A. Known for his 102 mph fastball, Jobe is set to strengthen Detroit’s bullpen, which ranks among the best in the league in terms of ERA.
If needed, Jobe could be a key player in the postseason, potentially filling in for an injured teammate. To make room for him on the roster, the Tigers designated veteran pitcher Shelby Miller for assignment.
Detroit’s remarkable turnaround in the second half of the season has put them in contention for a playoff spot. The team will play a crucial six-game homestand to close out the season, facing the Rays and the White Sox.
