The game between the New York Knicks and Miami Heat on Monday night was shaping up to be a close contest for the first three quarters. The Heat initially took an 11-point lead in the first quarter, but the Knicks managed to narrow the gap to just two points by halftime and even briefly took the lead in the third quarter. However, with the Knicks ahead 64-58, the game came to a sudden halt. The players had to wait on the sidelines for about 10 minutes while staff attended to an incident courtside.
What happened was that a fan sitting in a courtside seat had vomited, requiring the crew to clean up the area before play could resume. It was later revealed that the fan in question was comedian Tracy Morgan, a well-known Knicks celebrity fan who hails from the Bronx. Morgan was seen being wheeled out of his seat, appearing to also have a nosebleed.
While spills on the court are not uncommon, they are usually manageable, such as wiping up spilled drinks. However, dealing with vomit is a different matter altogether, and it’s not something players would want to navigate around. Although it’s rare for a fan to fall ill courtside, as demonstrated on Monday, it can happen.
Following the delay, the Knicks went on a 24-6 run to secure a 116-95 victory, despite missing their star point guard Jalen Brunson. Their immediate concern, however, was for Morgan, who is cherished by Knicks fans for both his support for the team and his comedic talents.
Morgan later provided an update on social media the next day, revealing that doctors had diagnosed him with food poisoning. The former Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock star even joked about potentially replicating the incident during the playoffs to spur another Knicks rally.
“Thank you for all your concern! I’m doing OK now and doctors say it was food poisoning,” Morgan shared in his post. “Appreciate my MSG family for taking such good care of me and I need to shout out the crew that had to clean that up. Appreciate you!
“More importantly, the Knicks are now 1-0 when I throw up on the court so maybe I’ll have to break it out again in the playoffs.”
Morgan is a regular presence at Madison Square Garden, and everyone at the venue undoubtedly wishes for his swift recovery so he can continue supporting the team during the Knicks’ upcoming playoff campaign. The 56-year-old has faced numerous health challenges in the past, including a kidney transplant in 2010 and a two-week coma following a car accident in 2014.
