Kayla Harrison has proven her doubters wrong ahead of her UFC 300 bantamweight bout against Holly Holm.
At Friday’s weigh-in, Harrison successfully made weight at 136 pounds, coming in under the 135-pound limit. This achievement dispelled concerns about her ability to cut down to the required weight.
As a former Olympian with gold medals in judo at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Games in the 171-pound weight class, Harrison has primarily competed at 155 pounds in the PFL. Her coach, Mike Brown, expressed confidence in her ability to make the necessary weight cut for the UFC.
“I thought she could do it,” Brown told MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin. “It’s a commitment and not easy, but she was not truly a lightweight at 155 pounds. Cutting weight will actually benefit her.”
With a professional record of 16-1, including six knockouts and six submission wins, Harrison is set to make her UFC debut against the former bantamweight champion, Holly Holm. Holm, known for defeating Ronda Rousey in 2015, holds a record of 15-6 and has a 3-1 record in her last five fights.
This highly anticipated matchup between Harrison and Holm at UFC 300 promises to be a thrilling showdown between two accomplished fighters.
