Brian Ortega reveals he passed out during weight cut for UFC Shanghai fight last month.
Ortega, 35, was set to face Aljamain Sterling in the co-main event but struggled to make the featherweight limit, waking up in the hospital during the weight cut process.
Despite losing to Sterling, Ortega managed to make the lightweight limit after a challenging weight cut session that led to him passing out for about 30 minutes.
“We were cutting weight for hours, trying to shed the last few pounds. I ended up passing out after a bike session and woke up in the ER,” Ortega shared on Instagram.
After regaining consciousness, Ortega decided to push through and continue with the fight, showing resilience and determination.
Despite the challenges, Ortega chose to stay in the fight and faced Sterling, displaying true sportsmanship by declining the option to be replaced by another fighter.
