Jamall Emmers keeps things simple in the octagon. He doesn’t overcomplicate things with elaborate gameplans or seek out wars – his goal is to be a precise sniper on fight night. This approach was evident in his victory over Gabriel Miranda at UFC on ESPN 64 at CDMX Arena.
Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Emmers explained his mindset: “I’m not really expecting anything. I’m just going in to get this ‘W,’ not really looking for wars. (I) try to make it real clean, like a sniper – in and out, not too much missing.”
Emmers was taken aback by Miranda’s aggressive start, especially considering the high altitude of Mexico City. The energy of the crowd also caught him by surprise.
As a well-informed member of the UFC featherweight division, Emmers had a callout prepared. He set his sights on the winner of the 145-pound bout that followed his own, between Christian Rodriguez and Melquizael Costa.
“I know there’s another 145-pound fight on this card,” Emmers said. “I want the winner of that. Whenever, but I want the winner of that. (Christian) Rodriguez and (Melquizael) Costa are very, very talented guys, very well-rounded guys, I believe. I think either one would be a good fight for me.”
Shortly after, Costa emerged victorious over Rodriguez via unanimous decision.
