Henry Cejudo faced a tough night at UFC Seattle, experiencing a gruesome injury due to multiple eye pokes that impaired his vision and led to a stoppage in his fight against Song Yadong. This resulted in a technical decision loss for Cejudo, marking his third consecutive defeat. He is now under an indefinite medical suspension until he receives clearance from an ophthalmologist for his eye injury.
The Washington State Department of Licensing released the medical suspensions from the UFC Seattle event, revealing that Cejudo must be cleared before his suspension is lifted. He is suspended at least until March 24, with no contact allowed until March 15.
Cejudo disclosed that he suffered from diplopia, soft tissue damage, and corneal abrasion as a result of the eye poke. On the other hand, Song Yadong faces a potentially longer suspension until August 21, without an explanation from the commission as to why.
Nikolay Veretennikov also received a lengthy suspension until August 21 following a second-round TKO loss to Austin Vanderford. Veretennikov’s suspension is pending an MRI and doctor’s clearance for an injured right shoulder, with a minimum suspension through April 8.
